The Model
The WIA car carrier from ATM is an impressive model in every way with
high specification, ultra fine detailing and nearly half a metre in length overall.
The body - superbly mastered by N-Gauge maestro Bernard Taylor
- captures the distinctive angled profile of these stylish and imposing wagons, designed to make use of every
inch of Britain's restrictive loading gauge.

The ATM WIA Arbel hs been carefully designed to run smoothly, despite being
such a long articulated vehicle.
The bogies are to the correct pattern and are moulded in high-srength engineering
grade resin with free-running low profile wheels.
The articulation units feature integral steel pins for strength and are self-centering.
For ease of storage, the model can be unclipped into three separate sections.

The ATM WIA Arbel also incorporates high levels of detail, with etched
stainless steel footsteps and end door details.
The extensive markings along the solebar are all faithfully recreated from
photographs of the real thing.
The Prototype
These wagons were built in 1992 by Arbel-Fauvet of France for Railfreight
Distribution. They were designed for Channel Tunnel traffic, and provide greater protection from both track debris and
the actions of vandals than other vehicles such as Cartics and Autics.
They are used on a variety of flows around the UK and abroad - the ones
we photographed at Allerton are often used to carry Jaguars from Halewood to the Continent.

WIA wagons don't
always run in block trains - here 37428 with a single unit is seen leaving Arpley.
